Staff Tuesday: Dave

Happy Tuesday! Did you check out the sale items this week on yesterday’s post? If not, stop by our website at www.blbikeshop.com to check them out. This week we have an Electra Bicycle on sale - not something that happens to often around here

Today, I am introducing a minion who has been around for almost a year now! Although, I’m not sure I can call him a minion, as he is a giant in my opinion!

I would like to introduce to you Dave

Dave like Ben was unsuccessful at getting my typist a picture so I think this one will have to do… I found it on the Davis Bicycle Clubs Website this is Dave racing in the 4th of July Criterium. He was 1st Place Winner in that race.

Dave started working at the bicycle shop in March of last year and he’s quite the sales person. Although, his toe shoes tend to scare me a bit: now he has half of the staff wearing them.

Dave was born on August 30th, ???? He’s not into sharing his age. I am going to guess 27 but I could be wrong. I’ll have to ask one of the boss ladies to pull his file and fill me in on the so-called secret.

Dave has a total of six bicycles…. Yes I said six I will just list the types of bicycles to make it easy on everyone. He has a Road, Cyclocross, Track, Fixed, Triathlon and Time Trial bicycle.

Dave says for fun in the summer of 2005 he rode 169 miles. Doesn’t sound too much like fun to me, maybe if I were in one of those pet baskets it wouldn’t be so bad though?

Dave like so many of the other staff members I have introduced to you truly enjoys cycling because of the freedom it brings him. It’s like I have said before I really love the freedom I feel when I get to walk up and down the sidewalk in front of the shop. It’s the same thing right?

Dave has been riding bicycles since he was three years old. If I was correct on his age that would be for 24 years.  However, Dave has been working within the cycling industry for at least four years now. I guess that means we B&L wasn’t his first industry job… sniff sniff… that means I Milo the Shop Cat didn’t have an impact on his love for cycling… well maybe I have and after reading this he will let me know…

So there you have it. I have 2 more minions to introduce to you, as well as my brother Pedro and Maxxis, so keep an eye out for those upcoming posts in the next few weeks.

Once I have introduced everyone, I might be retiring my blog. That is unless people start subscribing to my blog. As of right now I’m not sure I am writing to anyone. So SAVE MY BLOG!!! Subscribe now!

However, I have been told if my blog is retired I will have guest appearances on the B&L Bike Shop blog that is in the works.

Well until my next post I leave you with a quote from Dave

“It never gets easier, you just go faster” – Greg LeMond

Staff Tuesdays: Ben

Happy Tuesday! Did you check out the sale items this week on yesterday’s post? If not, stop by our website at www.blbikeshop.com to check them out.

Today, I am introducing a minion who has been around for a while now!

Introducing Ben!!

He was unsuccessful at getting my typist a picture so we will call him Faceless  Ben!

Ben has worked for the bike shop for about 2 years now. He is the Sales Supervisor and a pretty cool cat!

Ben was born in 1963… I’m not sure of the date since he left that information out in our conversation…

Ben owns a hand-built 1985 Fisher Mountain Bike and a “Junker” Huffy Cruiser!

Ben once rode 88 miles once on knobby tires! He said, “I was having fun in the glory days of my youth, and, in my foolishness, I rode from Old Sacramento on the bike trail to Granite Bay.”

Ben likes riding his bicycle because it makes him feel good!!!

Ben has been into cycling as a hobby for 26 years and has worked in the industry for about 2 years!

An interesting fact about Ben: He makes sourdough bread from scratch and builds long boards too… [I’ve seen Emelia rolling around on one... I wonder if he can make one for me to roll down the sidewalk on?]

So there you have it. I have 3 more minions to introduce to you, as well as my brother Pedro and Maxxis, so keep an eye out for those upcoming posts in the next few weeks. Once I have introduced everyone, I will need a blog topic for Tuesdays… Any ideas?

Well until my next post I leave you with a quote Ben wanted me to share:

Beer is proof God loves us and wants us to be happy! – Ben Franklin

Staff Tuesday: Alex

Happy Tuesday! I hope everyone had a wonderful three day weekend. I got a lot of attention yesterday as everyone was out shopping on their day off.

Today I have a newer minion to introduce to you!
His name is Alexander

~ But we call him Alex ~

Alex started working for us back in October and seems to fit in with our family quite well.

Alex’s birthday is December 20th 1985…
That makes him a Christmas baby!

Alex owns a Schwinn Traveler and rides it to and from work and school.

Alex says the longest he has ever ridden was probably around 15 miles. He used to bicycle through the trails in the forest behind his neighborhood growing up.
[I do remember him talking to me about someday wanting to ride across the country though]

Alex likes riding his bicycle because he feels more connected to the Elements.

He has been riding his bicycle all of his life. However, this is Alex’s first job within the industry.

An interesting fact about Alex: His father is a famous astrohsicist and discovered the first “habitable” planet around a star 20 light years away. Its formal name is “Gliese581g”, but it’s known informally as “Zarmina’s World” after his mother. [Meow interesting]

Well there you have it. Alex our newest member and my newest minion!!!

New Monday: Items of the Week!!!

I hope everyone had a great weekend. It was beautiful. Hopefully, you were able to get out and enjoy your bicycle. The boss ladies, Beth & Christy, and Emelia went out on a ride with the Davis Cinderellas on Saturday. They enjoyed a nice 23.5 mile ride to woodland and back. I hear they stopped at this really cool café called Fat Cat Café! [Sounds like a place I would fit right in at] Christy and Emelia both said their lunches were very yummy! Do you have any stories to share about your weekend ride?

Now, let’s get on to the real stuff. I have been thinking that since my typist is not normally in on Sundays I have decided to not make her work from home anymore. Starting today, we will be switching “Sunday: Items of the Week” to “Monday: Items of the Week”. I’m sure this won’t affect too many people.

However, on Sundays you can still see our items of the week posted on our website. www.blbikeshop.com

Well here we have it; the following items are on sale till 1/21/2012

Staff Party Re-cap

The Staff had a Holiday (It's about time) Party last night!

So I thought I would post a quick re-cap of the party for you as all I have heard this morning are stories from last night.

The party was at the home of the Big Boss Lady. Her husband Tom served up Ribs and sushi that him and James spent all day making.

Some old staff showed up... Roy, Gurjeet & Rachelle [I miss these minions]

Everyone ate a lot and drank a bit.

Adam ended up in a Turkey hat after a game of Catch Phrase for no apparent reason

The night went of with lots of random conversations and groups playing games.

So I hear they had a lot of fun. I wasn't invited as the boss ladies cat would have had an issue with me!

Staff Tuesday: Emelia

Happy Tuesday! I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. School is back in session at UCD and there have been a lot more feet and wheels to avoid this past week.

Today I have someone very interesting to introduce to you!
Emelia is her name and she is one cool cat!

~ Also known as “Care Bear” and “Em”~

Emelia has been working for B&L Bike Shop for 1 year as of TODAY!

Emelia first started out at B&L too… [where I grew very fond of her]. After taking the summer off, she joined the boys on the sales floor over on the shop side of things, and back in November she moved up to the office and is now the Office Manager or Slave to the boss ladies as she calls it.

Emelia was born on December 1st

Emelia owns a 1970’s Univega from her Mom’s college days. It was also used to pull her around when she was a wee little one. She also owns a Full Suspension Giant NRS mountain bike and a Specialized Roubaix that is covered in stickers and named Racine, after a French author.

Emelia has seemed to always enjoy cycling. She was crazy enough to one time ride from the coast of Oregon to Nashville, Tennessee with a bunch of friends from college. They did this ride to raise money to build wells in Africa. After 2600 miles and 40 days of riding Emelia says her tush is still mad at her. [I pawnder the thought, “Will she ever do it again”]

Emelia loves cycling! She says she loves it because cycling is something that she can do with friends, strangers, or alone. Emelia says, “While I am out riding I see the world from a totally different and deeper perspective than I would if I were driving a car. It’s a great place to think or avoid thinking depending on the day.” [This is what I wish I could say when they make me come in from wandering around outside! I just love the fresh air . . . oh and bugs…]

Emelia started mountain biking as a young teenager and has been road riding for almost 4 years now.

An interesting fact about Emelia: She lived in Peru for 8 months trying to teach English, and for four of those months worked with elementary school students. She Says, “It was like trying to herd a flock of Spanish speaking cats…on a sugar high.”

When asked to give my thoughts on Emelia my first response is always, "If I say something nice do I get a treat?" Followed by the cutest meow's imaginable.
Don’t forget to stop in and check out those Clearance Items I mentioned on Sunday! Next Sunday I will focus in on specific items on Clearance.

Till then, I leave you with a favorite quote of Emelia’s
"Drive fast. Take Chances” ~Her Dad

Staff Tuesdays: Francis

Happy Tuesday! I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend and a Happy New Year’s Eve. What did you do to ring in the New Year? I chased my brothers, Maxxis and Pedro, around all night and then hid from all the loud fireworks!

So what are your resolutions for 2012?
For myself:  I plan on trying to lose some of this extra fat I seem to have around my tummy section. I am also going to try and stay on top of my blog as best as I can.
I know my minions get upset when I don't blog as promised!!
Meow Meow here's to 2012!!!

Tuesday has come and it is time I introduced you to Francis!
~ Also known as “Tree Hugger”~
"In a good way though"

Francis is a very outdoorsy type of person
Francis has been working for B&L Bike Shop for almost 6 months now.
[He is one of my friendliest minions…meow meow]

Francis was born on 7/18/72
[Meow, finally someone without a September birthday]

Francis has a hybrid bicycle. He left out all details about the bicycle. So, we can make-up an imaginary image of what his hybrid would be. Personally, I like to imagine something pink and sparkly.

Francis is new to the bicycle industry but has been riding a bicycle most of his life. So far the longest ride Francis has been on is 50 miles, when he went exploring all of the single tracks on the San Francisco Peaks in Flagstaff, AZ. Francis really enjoys the adrenaline of downhill riding, but is currently enjoying riding around town while he allows a knee injury to heal.

An interesting fact about Francis: He loves to rock climb (often dragging other minions along with him after work). He also comes from a large family of 5 sisters and 4 brothers! Meow.... to be 1 of 10 kids... what a family!!! It explains why he treats everyone around here like family.

All I have to say to Francis is, "Hey watch out with those big feet!" He always seems to be stepping on me!

Next Sunday starts our “2012 Sunday Items of the Week”! Make sure to stop by my corner and see what cool items, deals and surprises the boss ladies have given me to share with you!

Till Sunday, I leave you with a favorite quote of Francis's
"All you touch and all you see is all your life will ever be." ~Roger Waters
